To preserve environment and fight against digital divide thanks to good citizenship, these are the two principal axes of the "To recycle to help" initiative, which has been held in Issy-les-Moulineaux (Paris, France) since autumn 2006.
November 11, 2006, The inhabitants of Issy-les-Moulineaux were invited to Square Corentin Celton to deliver their old informatics equipments (computers, screens, scanners, printers) for recycling, and by this contributing to environment protection. A computer is manufactured of at least 22 kilos of chemicals. Old materials are too often found in our streets and their recycling became a major stake for environment protection.
More than 12 tons of materials were collected and 53 % were sent to recycling centers for being treated according to environmental standards.
47 % of the more recent equipments were entrusted to an insertion enterprise for being repaired. The reconditioned computers are sold for 120 euros. The Issy-les-Moulineaux Social Services decided to finance 50 % of this cost for helping the poorest families to be equipped.
December 20, few days before Christmas, forty families could take possession, for only 60 euros, a Pentium III computer.
Several series of such computers distributions will be organized throughout 2007.
