Many Belgian towns have been trying out the IRISbox counter, an online counter. Thanks to identity cards all Belgians can get administrative documents at any time at home and also pay online.
All that has to be done is to install a card reader , insert the
identity card, log on to www.irisbox.irisnet.be, indicate the PIN code
and ask for the necessary document. It isn’t necessary anymore to type
in your name, address etc, since it’s all contained in the id card.
The
chance of making mistakes is thus reduced.
A citizen looking for a specific document can give his/her telephone number, GSM number or email id .He/she can also attach pdf, txt, jpg, jpeg documents and keep a track of his/her file online. The document requested for is then sent by the post. Belgians can get electronic identity card readers in a few town councils in Brussels .
These can be used for other purposes such as filing income tax returns (Tax-on-web). As of today 80% of the people ask for birth, marriage and death certificates.
