Former
House Speaker Newt Gingrich's American
Solutions Group has created a viral online petition surrounding its
pro-drilling campaign that has attracted 1.1 million supporters in only 30
days. According to PoliticsOnline, the right-roots are all abuzz about Newt's success, since it's the first
good news as the right has taken a pounding online from Obama and the left.
Newt's "Drill
Here, Drill Now, Pay Less" was launched on May 28 and has reached
1,198,770 signatures. Comparatively, the site has received more
traffic than their nemesis MoveOn.org, which recently aired a much
publicized anti-McCain
ad.
In addition to the petition, the site is offering a variety of high-tech tools
to support their pro-drilling efforts including: an investment widget, a
petition widget, an option to endorse the campaign on personal websites,
banners supporting the movement, a YouTube campaign site, a Solutions lab, and
an "action pack" which includes a printable version of the 'Drill
Now' petition.
Also, so far over 73,000 people have made online donations to fuel the 'Drill
Now' petition, which President Bush and Sen. McCain recently endorsed.
Newt is one of the most savvy strategic thinkers and doers on the Republican
side. Against overwhelming odds, he brought the House Republicans our of the
wilderness to a majority. Republicans would be wise to pay attention to Newt -
and Democrats too.
