This morning, members of the Cultural Affairs commitee at the French National Assembly took part in a hearing where French football coach Raymond Domenech and former French Football Federation (FFF) head Jean-Pierre Escalettes explained France’s World Cup fiasco. A hearing «in camera», at the request of the FFF.
However, a member of the Parliament, Lionel Tardy, broke up this private hearing, tweeting the debates for one hour.
Immediately tracked by the media, he was reprimanded after having written "I am the blabber who tweets and I take responsibility for it" and was obliged to cut off his connection. The MP, member of the presidential majority, and an IT business manager, had already stood out in the small circle of digital specialists by admitting using Twitter to make himself known, particularly by the journalists. "This is part of the communication strategy of a MP", Tardy stated last April during a local elected representatives meeting in Paris.
The President of the National Assembly, Bernard Accoyer, responded by announcing that the case of Mr. Tardy will be submitted to the office of the Parliament, because if "new technologies make information flow so more rapidly, they can undermine respect for the camera when the Assembly or a committee decides to sit in camera "
As a reminder, a hearing "in camera" means "behind closed doors" and it refers to a hearing held outside the presence of the public, in order "to avoid disorders which might affect the impartiality of justice or to ensure the privacy of victims".
