With 43.1% participation in all 27 Member States of the European Union,
abstention is the real winner of the election of the new European
Parliament. This is the lowest since the Parliament is elected by
direct universal suffrage. The European Parliament Communication team,

The European election

"To be a central player in the online debate on Europe" is one of the main objectives of Touteleurope.fr, a French website created in 2006 after the French No in the referendum on the Constitutional Treaty. This website want to convince French people that Europe is our future. Touteleurope.fr is organizing a virtual meeting with José Manuel Barrosa, President of the European Commission, next Monday May 18. Thirty years after the first election of the European Parliament by direct vote, 375 million voters representing 27 member countries
of the European Union and their 500 million inhabitants will vote from 4 to
7 June to elect 736 Members of Parliament. It is the biggest transnational elections in history. But, according to polls, a majority of voters may not
get around. The electoral campaign should reflect consideration by the European
political parties, lessons of the American net-campaign and change
their practices with the use of Web 2.0. But it should also demonstrate
that these tools do not make the election alone.
